CHICAGO – November 28, 2017 – This month marks the 175th anniversary of Ryerson, a value-added processor and distributor of industrial metal. The company opened its doors in 1842 along the banks of the Chicago River and has since expanded to include approximately 100 locations throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico, as well as China. Today, Ryerson is one of Chicago’s oldest companies and a leader in the metal service center industry.
To celebrate this momentous milestone, Ryerson hosted open house events at locations across North America, welcoming over 1,000 customers, partners and guests into its facilities.
“As Ryerson celebrated its 175th anniversary as an iconic industrial metals distribution and processing company on November 19, we thank every customer we have had the privilege to serve since 1842, and we look forward to providing excellent customer experiences for many years to come,” said Eddie Lehner, Ryerson’s president and chief executive officer.
To extend the celebration throughout its 175th year in business, Ryerson is giving back to the community through a company-wide volunteer initiative that will kick off in December and continue through November 2018. The Ryerson Gives Back program encourages employees to support organizations in their communities by allowing employees to volunteer their time during normal business hours and subsidizing expenses.
“Ryerson Gives Back is a year-long volunteer program we’re starting to amplify our impact and demonstrate our unified commitment to the communities in which we serve,” said Allison Pillsbury, senior manager, Corporate Human Resources and Ryerson Gives Back committee lead. “We believe the program is a reflection of Ryerson’s 175-year legacy of giving back, as well as the company’s ongoing commitment to supporting the communities in which it serves.”
